December 23, 2023 – The 2023 Congress was held in Istanbul in October 2023 and resulted in the adoption of five new resolutions. Canadian member participation was significant, with about half of AIPPI Canada members making the journey to Turkiye. At the online AGM for AIPPI Canada held in November 2023, the new council was elected, including new council members Andy Chow and Santosh Chari. Regrettably, Curtis Behmann resigned from council due to time constraints. His significant contributions to council will be missed. Council was proud to grant emeritus status to long-time AIPPI Canada member Don MacOdrum.

Renewal forms for 2024 may be filled out online through the Join Us page and will be circulated by email shortly. Previous members and new members are encouraged to complete their membership forms as soon as possible so that we can begin the work of preparing Canadian submissions on the 2024 study questions. 

 

January 8, 2022 – The 2021 Congress was again held online and resulted in the adoption of four new resolutions. At the online AGM for AIPPI Canada held in November 2021, Isabelle Chabot was welcomed back to the AIPPI Canada Council as president after her term serving on the Bureau. We congratulate past president Fred Barbieri on his recent election to the Bureau as Assistant Secretary General. Renewal forms for 2022 may be filled out online through the Join Us page. Previous members and new members are encouraged to complete their membership forms as soon as possible so that we can begin the work of preparing Canadian submissions on the 2022 study questions. We are very hopeful that current plans to hold the 2022 Congress in San Francisco in September will not be derailed by the ongoing pandemic.

 

December 31, 2020 – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Congress was held online and resulted in the adoption of four new resolutions. At the online AGM for AIPPI Canada, Paula Clancy was elected to the AIPPI Canada Council. Renewal forms for 2021 may be filled out online through the Join Us page.

 

December 6, 2019 – At the recent AGM in Montreal, Isabelle Chabot was congratulated on her re-election to the Bureau. As a result of her duties at the International level, she has resigned from Canadian Council. Membership renewal for 2020 will soon be available and all current and past members are encouraged to fill out their membership forms before the February 1, 2020 deadline. Once again, renewal will be available online through the Join Us page.

 

June 21, 2019 – The Canadian Group’s activity report for 2017-2018 has been submitted to AIPPI International. A copy is available here: AIPPI Canada Activity Report for 2017-2018

 

June 7, 2019 – Answers to the questionnaires for the London study questions have been completed by the Canadian committees and submitted to AIPPI International. The Reporter General team will now work on preparing a summary report and will task a leadership team for each question with preparing a draft resolution ahead of the London Congress. Once the draft resolutions are available, we will endeavor to make them available to Canadian members for comment before the Congress. In the meantime, copies of the Canadian answers are available to view and download on our Study Questions page.

 

April 9, 2019 – Registration for the London Congress is now open! Early bird rates are available until June 12, 2019. Of note this year, AIPPI has blocked some rooms in two nearby hotels, but is not handling accommodations directly and invites attendees to make their own arrangements. 

Work is underway within the Canadian Group on the study questions for London. Members interested in participating are encouraged to reach out to the committee chairs:

December 14, 2018 – At the recent AGM, new President Bill Mayo took the helm and Alfred Macchione assumed the title of Past President. The AGM also saw the appointment of Nathalie Jodoin as a new Council member. Council thanks former Past President France Cote for all her hard work for AIPPI Canada over the years and welcomes Nathalie Jodoin to Council. We look forward to a productive 2019!

Membership renewal for 2019 is now available and all current and past members are encouraged to fill out their membership forms before the February 1, 2019 deadline. The renewal can be completed online through the Join Us page.

 

November 2, 2018 – AIPPI Canada’s AGM will feature remarks from Beverly Moore and Cynthia Rowden giving an update on recent patent and trademark developments, including the recently-announced changes in Bill C-86. We look forward to seeing everyone on November 22, 2018 at the offices of Norton Rose Fulbright in Toronto (Suite 3800, 200 Bay Street). 

 

October 17, 2018 – AIPPI Canada’s annual meeting of members will occur on November 22, 2018 at the offices of Norton Rose Fulbright in Toronto (Suite 3800, 200 Bay Street). The AGM will occur at 11:00 am, with lunch and speakers to follow. A formal notice and details will be emailed to members soon.

 

June 21, 2018 – Over a 1000 attendees have registered for the Cancun Congress already, including almost 40 Canadians. As is our annual tradition, we intend to have a brief Canadian reception to get a chance to reconnect with colleagues and share a drink or two. Details will follow soon.

 

May 21, 2018 – AIPPI Canada is hosting a Lunch and Learn event in Toronto entitled “Obviousness – Developments in Canadian Law” on June 20, 2018 at the offices of McCarthy Tétreault LLP. The cost is $90, and RSVPs may be sent to frowand@rowandlaw.com. The flyer is available here:
